Other Taylor Works...
In the year 1865 Hudson Taylor was led to write the pamphlet “China’s Spiritual Need and Claims,” showing the urgent necessity there was for some further effort for the evangelization of China. Its circulation was blessed by God, and much interest in China was awakened. A number of persons were led to devote themselves to Mission work there; some who joined the China Inland Mission, and some who are members of other Missions, point to that book as having determined their course.

This little book, designed to lead the seeking Bible reader into the very presence of God, is one of the lasting legacies of Hudson Taylor. In the obvious power of the Holy Sprit, he has unveiled the deep secrets of true intimacy with Jesus in the simplest of language. The symbol and imagery of the Song of Songs is too often neglected or misunderstood. How many of us have given up in bewilderment, trying to find the richness of meaning hidden in the figurative language? “How can I understand unless someone explains it to me…” It is safe to say that these pages will deeply satisfy all those who ask this question. To those who knew Hudson Taylor, these pages flowed right out of his everyday life. He lived what he explains here. Even more than his words, his walk with Jesus declared that he really understood intimacy with God, and the fruit of his life proved it. Some may reject this book as being too spiritual or impractical because it deals with true intimacy and actual fellowship with the unseen God of the universe. But let me remind you that the writer of these pages founded the China Inland Mission, now known as OMF International. He translated his vision into lifelong service, a ministry hardly matched by anyone today. This is really the goal of these few short chapters. They reveal an intimacy that comes from experience. They open a pathway through this little piece of God’s word that will lead you to the very heart of God—if you choose to walk along it.
